In the 1830’s Michael Thonet a German-Austrian cabinetmaker commenced his attempt to make furniture from glued and bent timber. Almost two decades later in 1851, his classic bentwood chair debuted at the World Fair in London.
The BENTWOOD collection is manufactured by FAMEG in Poland which was established by the brothers Thonet in 1881. The original bentwood chair is still manufactured there using the same basic bending principles assisted by modern technology.
